Services

At MPC Ecology our multi-disciplined team can offer a wide range of solutions for all your ecological and wildlife requirements. We are able to respond quickly to any request and can offer advice and consultation on a wide variety of ecological issues.

We also specialise in:

Habitat Surveys
A habitat survey can give an overview of an area with regard to the habitats and species located at a particular site. This can highlight or eliminate the need for further surveys, and will form the basis of future surveys, including those for protected species such as great crested newts, bats, badgers and other key species of flora and fauna.
A Phase 1 Habitat Survey gives a good impression of the general ecological condition of a site and is especially useful for larger areas of land.

Great Crested Newt Surveys
The great crested newt Triturus cristatus is Britain’s most strictly protected amphibian. It is included in Annexes II and IV of the Habitats Directive due to the considerable decline that it underwent during the last century. Like nearly all amphibians, the great crested newt is dependent on water-bodies for breeding but usually spends most of its life on land.

Their decline can be traced to a number of factors – loss of ponds as breeding habitat, loss of associated territorial habitat for foraging and refuge, fragmentation of ponds by development, pollution and other factors.

This protection will hopefully safeguard the species, so long as developers and landowners comply with current laws and directives. At MPC Ecology we can offer advice and consultation to ensure that your development complies with the law and that all necessary steps are taken to protect great crested newts and their habitat.

Many local authorities will now stipulate that an area of proposed development should be surveyed to check for the presence of great crested newts. MPC Ecology have the knowledge, expertise and licenses necessary to carry out surveys and advise on the correct course of action.

Other Wildlife Surveys
We can also survey for many other types of flora and fauna. Vegetation surveys, butterfly surveys and pond surveys are just a selection of the types of survey which may prove beneficial in the management of a site or to show the ecological value of a particular area.

Habitat Management
We can offer advice on all types of habitat management from woodlands to grasslands, parks to ponds and any other area. Whether to enhance biodiversity, encourage wildlife or safeguard species already present we can prepare management plans to suit every need.
